The prosperity of a country mainly depends on the education of her population. About 50% the total population of our country is female. A country can’t expect her prosperity avoiding this large part of population. So, female education is a must. It is the pre- condition of the overall development of our country.

But it is a matter of great regret that the condition of female condition in our country is not so satisfactory. Female education improves health and nutritional status of the country. It also reduces population growth, increases economic productivity and sustains the development efforts.

In fact, its importance can’t be described in words. Truly speaking, poverty is the main barrier on the way of female education. Early marriage is also another barrier on the way of female education. Besides, religious misinterpretation, social prejudices and customs, discriminatory attitudes towards girls, wrong idea about female education etc. are also the reasons behind these barriers.

Because of these barriers, female education is greatly hampered and the female population suffer in the long run. However, this problem can’t be solved overnight. For this, our outlook towards the girls should be changed. To encourage female education, our govt has already taken some steps like giving stipends to girls, recruiting more female teachers, making female education free up to higher secondary level etc.

However, no girls should be married off before 18 and minimum education must be ensured. Above all, all necessary steps should also be taken to encourage female education for the greater welfare of the nation.

নারী শিক্ষার পথে দারিদ্র্যই প্রধান বাধা। বাল্যবিবাহও নারী শিক্ষার পথে আরেকটি বাধা। এছাড়া ধর্মীয় অপব্যাখ্যা, সামাজিক কুসংস্কার ও প্রথা, মেয়েদের প্রতি বৈষম্যমূলক মনোভাব, নারী শিক্ষা সম্পর্কে ভুল ধারণা ইত্যাদিও এসব বাধার পেছনের কারণ। এসব বাধার কারণে নারী শিক্ষা ব্যাপকভাবে ব্যাহত হয় এবং নারী জনগোষ্ঠী দীর্ঘমেয়াদে ভোগান্তির শিকার হয়।

যাই হোক, এই সমস্যা রাতারাতি সমাধান করা যাবে না। এ জন্য মেয়েদের প্রতি আমাদের দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি বদলাতে হবে। নারী শিক্ষাকে উৎসাহিত করতে আমাদের সরকার মেয়েদের উপবৃত্তি প্রদান, আরও মহিলা শিক্ষক নিয়োগ, উচ্চ মাধ্যমিক স্তর পর্যন্ত মহিলা শিক্ষা বিনামূল্যে করা ইত্যাদির মতো কিছু পদক্ষেপ ইতিমধ্যেই নিয়েছে।

তবে, ১৮ বছরের আগে কোনও মেয়ের বিয়ে দেওয়া উচিত নয় এবং ন্যূনতম শিক্ষা নিশ্চিত করতে হবে। সর্বোপরি, জাতির বৃহত্তর কল্যাণের জন্য নারী শিক্ষাকে উত্সাহিত করার জন্য প্রয়োজনীয় সকল পদক্ষেপও নিতে হবে।
